Road to Recovery (Part 2)

The Surgery

I was pretty impressed by the nurses in Mount Elizabeth (Mount E) Hospital actually. Firstly, there were a lot of them. When I was pushed into the four-bedded room, there were like six nurses to greet me and help me out. And before the surgery, they actually went all out to make sure that I was comfortable - my contact lenses were removed, my pedicure was removed and I was feeling better. I think there is a difference between my experience in Mount E and the other experience I had in a restructured hospital - the key contrast is service and time. More so for time rather than service. The ambulance took me in at 11am, I got my X-Ray done at 12pm, I saw the doctor at 1pm and at 3pm I got to do my surgery. Whereas for the other restructured hospital, I remembered that I was admitted at 6pm in the evening and only got to be operated at 4am the following day.

Anyways, it's always important to get sufficient hospitalisation insurance in this case. Because, I think I will be in pain for a greater amount of time. Although the service might be similar, but you just want to be well taken care of sooner.

Anyways, back to the surgery. I was having a panic attack when I was pushed into the surgery room. I told the doctor and the anaesthetist that I am not ready for an operation. And I was scared. But it was too late, they just pushed me in, asked me a couple of questions and then injected me with something and I fell asleep. When I woke up, I did not feel any pain in my left leg but I left that someone was moving it around.

I was shivering like crazy and sweating at the same time. I felt terrible.

Lesson: Get your hospitalisation insurance so that you are well-covered and have the choice to go to a less crowded hospital in times of emergency.
